If you're like me, you're saying to yourself, "is Teenage
Fanclub even still together?!" Yes, they are and they're latest
release, "Grand Prix," (named after Su's favorite Pontiac
vehicle) is their strongest release to date. Recorded in a
converted 13th-century manor house in rural Oxfordshire,
England, "Grand Prix" fills the guitars with super and puts the
harmonies in overdrive. It starts out strong but, unfortunately,
it laps around the same track over and over.
Along the way, there are some strong points to the album, like
"About You," "Tears," and "I'll make it clear," but it loses
energy each time it skids around the corner to come right back
out you with similar rhythms and harmonies. It will be a
must-buy for any Teenage Fanclub fanclub members out there. For
the rest, take a close listen to it on the radio or at the CD
store before going for the checkered flag with this one.
