Bar Chord Ritual

I like this album. It's heavy, loud, and fast. Plus, unlike so many other new releases, its heavy, loud, fast, and NOT punk!!! Quite noticeable in "Bar Chord Ritual" are borrowings from many of the great metal bands of the past 15 years or so, but there is nothing that could be identified as an out-right "rip-off". Specifically, the influences of Metallica, Alice in Chains, and even Kiss bleed through the angst, but Rust is still able to put together a very original album. Not to be overlooked in this album review is the quality of the cover art. It's as original as the band and thought provoking.

Some of the best tracks? Not only are "e=mc^2", "Not Today", and "Words" the album has some modern commentary, like "Someone You Know" and "Song for a Wedding". The album also has some week points, like "Perhaps?" and "Five More Minutes" which are lyrically weak and musically average.
